Job Title: Senior Embedded Software Engineer
Location: Ashford

Role Purpose
To design and assist in guiding the development of the embedded software systems on various QTS projects relating to unmanned air vehicles, aerial targets, surface/marine targets and related technologies.
Key Accountabilities
- Embedded software system design, implementation & test from requirements to production release
- Detailed embedded real time software design to support both new and legacy products
- Production and maintenance of design records in accordance with internal design procedures
- Project management
- Field services and trials support (domestic and overseas) in developing the product portfolio.
- Fault diagnosis of the embedded systems, both software and hardware
- Provide technical support for internal and external customers
- Provide input to the company's continuous improvement program
- Contribute to the technical direction of product design
- Mentoring and assisting in the training of more junior software engineers
- Act as technical lead for small projects requiring multiple software engineers

Key Capabilities/Knowledge
Experience in the design, implementation & testing of embedded systems is essential.
Being an expert with demonstrable experience in the following areas is essential:
- Real time systems
- C programming for embedded systems
- Version control systems such as git
- Coding standards & good design practices
- Software testing and plans for verification & validation as well as white & black box
- Low level drivers to interface to hardware such as UART, CAN, A/D etc.
- To review & critique embedded hardware designs from a software use perspective
- To read & understand hardware datasheets of components such as processors and interface chips, UART, I2C, CAN, A/D etc.
- Project management & understanding of the full life cycle of project
- Have or be able to quickly attain good levels of product knowledge

Knowledge in the following areas is desired:
- RTOS
- C++ programming for embedded systems
- Programming for test applications in C# with Visual Studio
- MATLAB – Simulink, State flow & Coder
- The use of electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analysers
- Practical PCB and harness assembly skills that can be used in development activities.
- Bill of Material creation and maintenance
- Aviation and or maritime systems
Must be competent in technical report writing.
Excellent communication skills.
Genuine interest to work with product realization.
Creative and pragmatic.
Interested and willing to handle a diverse portfolio of projects and assignments.
Strong time management skills.
Self-driven and able to deliver.
Structured and documented work methods.
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum of degree or equivalent, in relevant fields or similar qualification dependent on experience.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a relevant embedded engineering design environment
- Ability to obtain UK Security Clearance is essential
