About The Role

We are seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join a multi-discipline EW capability development team at our Gloucester site. This exciting opportunity allows you to work on a variety of Defence, Cyber, and Intelligence programmes, contributing to the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge RF systems. If you have hands-on experience with embedded systems development – especially in the context of software defined radio applications – and are eager to advance your career in a high-impact, innovative environment, we want to hear from you!

At Lockheed Martin, we provide meaningful work and continuous learning opportunities that will help develop your skills and progress your career. We believe in supporting a healthy work-life balance, offering flexible work schedules, hybrid work where possible, and a comprehensive benefits package to ensure you can enjoy both your professional and personal life.

As an Embedded Software Engineer you will work within a multi-skilled team, using the OpenCPI framework to build, test, and optimize software-defined radio systems and RF applications. You’ll work closely with peers, Delivery Managers and Technical Leads to ensure that the customer mission requirements are achieved in efficient and innovative ways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Component and Worker Development – Undertake the development and integration of DSP and SDR functions in C++ which will be incorporated into a wider OpenCPI application.
  • Platform & API development – Implement signal processing pipelines, embedded Linux drivers, firmware, and application management code to manage the integration of our applications with radios in use by our clients in the real world.
  • System Design & Integration – Operate within a cross-functional team designing and integrating RF communication systems, ensuring seamless operation within complex mission environments.
  • Test & Measurement – Engage in test driven development strategies and consider testing throughout the development lifecycle of an application, implementing test harnesses and simulations for effective system verification and validation.
  • Innovation – Embrace the use of the latest AI/ML tooling and hybrid cloud compute environments to deliver results that continually outpace and challenge the status quo.
  • Collaboration & Reporting – Use Agile principles and strong communication to work with peers and leaders to ensure that our delivery is providing the right solution on time. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on innovative solutions for both Lockheed Martin and our customers, delivering cutting-edge technology in the realm of RF communications and SDR systems.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
