Senior Employment Counsel
*London based - flexible working

This exciting new in-house Employment Counsel opportunity has arisen to provide expert and strategic legal advice to the senior leadership on a broad range of employment matters. The aim of the role will be to minimize and appropriately manage legal risk and reputational damage to the business.
Reporting to the General Counsel, the successful candidate will assist in advising on a broad range of employment matters.
Responsibilities
- Advising on a broad range of day-to-day employment issues arising, including on hiring, restrictive covenants, reward structures, settlements.
- Handling employment litigation and employment tribunal matters arising, with the assistance of external counsel where appropriate.
- Advising on employment implications of acquisitions and integration, including on TUPE transfers.
- Liaising with stakeholders, including the group legal function, where employment matters require escalation and further reporting.
- Working alongside HR on the legal aspects of employment-related policies and procedures, and working with other functions, identifying risk improvement measures, including the evaluation of different risk factors in business structure and operations.
- Advising on international employment matters with the assistance of jurisdiction-specific expertise.
- Managing and supervising external legal counsel as required and controlling and minimizing external legal spend.

Qualifications & Experience
This is a great opportunity for a UK-qualified solicitor with good broad experience gained in private practice or in-house. We are looking for someone who has/is:

- Legal expertise and specialism in employment law, ideally with 6+ years of post-qualification experience.
- A proven track record of leading on and managing a wide-ranging portfolio of complex employment issues, including cross-border jurisdiction.
- Ideally, some experience in the financial service industry, either through private practice exposure or in-house experience.
This is an opportunity for a subject matter expert with strong interpersonal skills, as you will need to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Particularly you need to be comfortable with dealing with HR professionals, managers, and executives and with building rapport so as to become a trusted adviser.
