Day-to-Day

Your Typical Day Will Involve

  • Collaborating with clients to develop energy and sustainability strategies for new and existing buildings.
  • Conducting energy calculations, dynamic energy modelling, and other technical assessments.
  • Leading design meetings and providing expert advice on low-energy building solutions.
  • Supporting the project management team during the construction phase.
  • Mentoring junior team members and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Staying up-to-date with industry trends and innovations to enhance our technical systems and processes.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Energy Consultant, you will:

  • Take a leading role in the Low Energy Building Design Team.
  • Define and update Low Energy Building Design strategies.
  • Complete Low Energy Building Design (RIBA Stages 1-4).
  • Support the Building Services Design process (RIBA Stages 1-4) and collaborate with the services team.
  • Assist the construction process (RIBA Stages 5-6) and work closely with project management teams.
  • Act as a mentor for junior, graduate, and placement energy consultants.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in Low Energy Building Design.
  • Develop and improve technical systems within the business.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and industry experts.
  • Review and appraise Low Energy Building Consultants and Contractors.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in Low Energy Building Design or Energy Consulting within the building sector.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field. Equivalent qualifications and experience will also be considered.
  • Strong knowledge and skills in energy modelling, energy calculations (Part L), air pressure testing, dynamic energy modelling (Part L and Part O), heat loss calculations, thermal bridging calculations, PAS 2035 Retrofit Design and Coordination, PassivHaus Design, and heat decarbonisation planning.
  • A proven ability to lead projects and mentor team members.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
