About the Position
As part of the Americas Solutions team, this role specializes in US energy markets within the Power Systems team, focusing on energy system planning for entities like System Operators, Regulators, and government organizations.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in energy market economics, wholesale market trends, and fundamental modeling for decision-making. Key areas include:
- Forecasting energy prices
- Portfolio optimization
- Risk management
- Secondary market participation
- Investment strategy evaluation

Use of fundamental market modeling tools to forecast energy prices and cross border flows in short, medium, and long-term time horizons.
Use of market modeling and portfolio optimization models in pre-trade decisions (physical energy trading and/or prop trading)
Use of market models to understand Value at Risk, and develop medium-term hedging strategies.
How to apply models to optimize strategy for participation in secondary markets (Balancing Markets, Ancillary Services Markets, etc).
Evaluation of the impact of disruptive technologies on longer-term energy markets.
Use of Modeling to support strategic/investment decisions.
The role has two main objectives: leading energy market model projects and PLEXOS implementation, and supporting business development through thought leadership and sales expertise. As part of model delivery, the Senior Energy Market Analyst will also handle project implementation tasks:
- Gather customer requirements and design PLEXOS-based modeling solutions, either enhancing existing datasets or building models from scratch.
- Provide industry best practices, assist in developing market assumptions, and analyze model outcomes, recommending adjustments as needed.
- Calibrate models to historical benchmarks and advise on strategic applications of PLEXOS.
- Develop test plans, resolve issues with product support, and deliver training on PLEXOS usage.
In a business development capacity, the Energy Market Analyst will perform the following functions:
- Develop Proof of Concept models showcasing Energy Exemplar’s solutions.
- Support sales by understanding client challenges and proposing tailored solutions.
- Deliver technical presentations, respond to RFIs/RFPs, and address product inquiries.
- Provide market insights to enhance the product roadmap.
- Conduct research, create energy market studies, and present findings at conferences and webinars.
This is a customer-facing role, and therefore successful candidates will not only have strong modeling capabilities and domain expertise, but also have excellent communication skills, be outgoing, professional, driven, and able to multi-task in a dynamic and often changing environment.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications
- Knowledge of electricity markets, power trading, or electrical systems Planning & Operations
- Experience in energy market supply and demand modeling via optimization/unit commitment (Preferably via commercial tools such as PLEXOS, BID3, Antaras, SDDP, PROMOD, etc)
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal presence and skills - demonstrated ability to build rapport
- Proficient with corporate productivity and web presentation tools
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong listening and presentation skills
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively
- Self-driven, results-orientated with a positive outlook and a focus on quality
- Thorough knowledge of standard Microsoft programs – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities
- Sense of urgency for goal achievement
- Strong desire for personal and career advancement
- A tertiary degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Economics, Operations Research, or similar degree. Ideally the candidate should have specialization in Electricity Systems (and/or Markets).
- 3 - 4 years’ experience in energy markets with a strong understanding of energy economics and market fundamentals, energy systems operation and/or engineering
- Knowledge of PLEXOS or other mathematically based optimization tools
- Experience with ENTSO-E working groups, particularly around the TYNDP or ERAA studies
