What’s this role about?
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Energy Trader to take ownership of trading and commercial optimisation for our portfolio of GB energy assets. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in energy trading, a strong understanding of physical asset optimisation, and a proven ability to develop and execute trading strategies that deliver commercial value.
While GB will be the primary focus, the role will work closely with our existing Irish trading capability, providing support and cross-cover for the SEM market where required. As GridBeyond continues to grow internationally, there will also be opportunities to broaden the successful candidate’s market knowledge and experience by supporting our trading teams across markets including ERCOT, CAISO, PJM, NEM and Japan.

What will I be doing?
- Develop and implement trading strategies: Develop and execute trading strategies to optimize profitability and manage risk in alignment with the company's overall goals and market conditions.
- Develop, own and execute trading and asset optimisation strategies to maximise commercial performance while managing risk, primarily across the GB wholesale, Balancing Mechanism and ancillary service markets.
- Act as a senior member of the Trading team, sharing market expertise, supporting other traders and contributing to the continued development of the wider trading and optimisation capability.
- Risk Management: Operate within agreed trading mandates and risk limits and actively manage market, imbalance and operational risks associated with the asset portfolio.
- Market analysis: Analyse market developments, fundamentals and trends to inform trading strategies and decision-making, and work closely with GridBeyond’s Regulatory team to understand and respond to relevant market and regulatory changes.
- Relationship management: Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, market partners, counterparties and exchanges to support trading activities and identify new opportunities.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and internal policies governing trading activities, including reporting requirements and ethical standards.
- Performance Monitoring: Own and analyse trading and asset performance, including P&L and relevant trading metrics, to assess strategy effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including risk management, finance, operations, sales and legal, to support business objectives and optimize trading activities.
- Support the onboarding and go-live of new assets, ensuring trading strategies, asset constraints and operational requirements are appropriately reflected in our trading and optimisation systems.
- Provide support and cross-cover to other GridBeyond trading markets where required, working alongside the traders responsible for those markets.

What do I need to be a good technical fit for this role?
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, engineering, or a related field or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- 3–5+ years' relevant experience in power trading, asset optimisation or a closely related energy-market role, with responsibility for trading or commercial performance.
- Strong knowledge of the GB electricity market, ideally including wholesale markets, the Balancing Mechanism and ancillary services.
- Experience trading or optimising physical energy assets, particularly battery storage, renewable generation, flexible generation or demand-side assets, is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and make informed trading decisions.
- Proficiency in trading platforms and market analysis tools.
- Experience working with automated trading or asset optimisation systems would be advantageous.
- Solid understanding of risk management principles and practices.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and negotiate effectively.
- A strong ownership mindset, with the ability to work autonomously, solve problems and contribute to improvements across the wider trading and optimisation function.
