Job Purpose
The Senior Engineer is responsible for the planning, coordination, management, and delivery of civil engineering and deep drainage works, ensuring that all activities are completed safely, to programme, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and contractual requirements. The role provides technical leadership to engineering teams and supports the successful delivery of complex infrastructure and drainage projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise civil engineering and deep drainage works, including sewer installations, attenuation systems, culverts, manholes, pumping stations, and associated infrastructure.
- Lead site engineering teams and oversee Graduate Engineers, Site Engineers, and Sub-Agents as required.
- Ensure works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, permits, and method statements.
- Prepare and review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), risk assessments, and temporary works requirements.
- Coordinate survey activities, setting out, and as-built records.
- Liaise with designers, clients, subcontractors, utility providers, and other stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
- Monitor progress against programme and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
- Review and manage subcontractor performance and productivity.
- Assist with procurement of materials, plant, and labour resources.
- Maintain accurate site records including diaries, quality documentation, and progress reports.
- Support commercial teams by identifying and recording variations, compensation events, and change management opportunities.
- Participate in design reviews and value engineering exercises.
- Ensure drainage installations comply with relevant standards, specifications, and adoption requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and promote best practice across the project.

Key Skills & Experience
- Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership desirable.
- Significant experience delivering civil engineering and deep drainage projects.
- Strong understanding of reinforced concrete, earthworks, utilities, highways, and drainage systems.
- Must be proficient in Auto Cad with a strong bias for Civil Cad also.
- Proficient in converting models from Cad to Earth Works Software in Excavators and Dozers.
- Experience working under NEC contracts preferred.
- Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of setting out techniques and survey equipment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple work fronts and coordinate several subcontractors simultaneously.
- A TWS qualification is of benefit to the candidate who would have a sound understanding of temporary works procedures and CDM Regulations.

- Ensure all works are undertaken in compliance with company and project HSE requirements.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and behavioural safety observations.
- Ensure environmental controls are implemented and maintained.
- Support incident investigations and close-out of corrective actions.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Delivery of works to programme milestones.
- Quality compliance and reduced rework.
- Health and safety performance.
- Cost control and efficient resource utilisation.
- Timely resolution of technical queries and design issues.
- Successful completion of drainage and infrastructure works to client satisfaction in the HS2 Environment.
