Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with business analysts, review and comprehend complex business requirements. Create application design to meet these requirements.
  • Work with product owners and architects to review and suggest solution design.
  • Compose high quality documentation and specifications.
  • Work alongside project stockholders to help ensure successful project delivery by assisting with accurate estimation, planning and task management. Commit to and carry out development tasks according to the development plan.
  • Conduct and contribute to peer reviews to improve overall code quality.
  • Provide accurate advice, guidance, support and training to other individuals.
  • Install, configure and test software releases in development environment. Provide support and assistance to QA and operational personnel with queries in upstream environments.
  • Positively represent the software engineering function within the organization.
  • Adopt best practices around DevSecOps (automated builds, automated unit testing, increasing test code coverage, static code analysis, automated deployments etc.).
  • Compare multiple technical solutions and tools and explain/apply them in clear language if relevant.
  • Learn new technologies as and when required to cover other roles within the team and meet the evolving needs of the business.
  • Take on additional roles and responsibilities to meet project/departmental needs as necessary.
  • 3rd line support analysis, investigation and resolution of production incidents and problems.
  • Participation in an out of hours support rota to aid with investigation and resolution of production issues.
  • Support business on a technical and logical basis providing project support where required.
  • Be an active contributor to the product knowledge repository to further develop best practices and standard deployment methodologies.

Academic and Professional Qualifications Required:

Education to degree level desirable, preferably a Bachelors or Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or other technical discipline.

Required Knowledge and Level of Experience:

A candidate for this position must have got working experience in IT organisation as a technologist who has evolved from a strong background in hands on software development:

  • 5+ years of experience with software development, preferably working with JVM based languages (Java/Scala/Kotlin).
  • Good experience with Microsoft's software development stack (.Net, SQL Server).
  • Good experience with Python Frameworks (e.g. Django, Flask, Pandas etc).
  • Understanding of both scrum/agile and waterfall software development lifecycle models.
  • Experience in application development, including analysing stories, writing code, implementing automated tests, contributing to release and iteration planning and developing the working practices of the team.
  • Extensive project experience and participation.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining complex design documentation and knowledge bases.
  • Experience operating highly available services.
  • Experience with distributed systems, consistent hashing, distributed locking, check-pointing, and load balancing.
  • OOO/OOD concepts and design patterns, modularization, functional decomposition and system implementation using micro services.
  • Software engineering practices including various types of testing: BDD, TDD, Unit, Mock, functional, integration, automation.
  • Working knowledge of Map Reduce, Kafka or other Big Data processing platforms.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Experience with Data Streaming Standards and Design Patterns as well as use-cases.
  • Mentoring and peer review of designs and coded implementations.
  • Ensure self and peers are actively seeking ways to objectively measure productivity. This will include a focus on automating code quality, code performance, unit testing, and build processing in the CI/CD pipeline.
