Role: Senior Engineer / Analyst – Civil & Structural
Location
Hybrid working with one of the following locations as primary: Derby, Warrington, or Manchester
Our Mission
Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) provides a British solution to a global energy challenge. We are in pole position to become a world leader in SMRs and the UK’s premier green export technology.
The Team
The Reactor Island Civil & Structural team is central to the development of the RR SMR design, responsible for the analysis and substantiation of safety-critical structures. The team applies advanced engineering and analytical techniques to ensure designs meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and regulatory compliance.
The Role
In this context, we are looking for a Senior Engineer / Analyst – Civil & Structural to report to a Reactor Island Civil & Structural Team Leader. This role will lead the development and delivery of structural analysis activities, supporting the design and substantiation of critical reactor structures and contributing to the overall safety case for the programme.
What We’ll Need You to Do
We’ll need you to:
- Leading the development, execution, and interpretation of finite element analysis models to support structural design and substantiation.
- Defining analysis approaches, including model fidelity, to address complex structural behaviours and loading conditions.
- Supporting the development of safety-classified structures through robust, traceable analytical evidence aligned to quality standards.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure analysis outputs inform and influence the evolving design.
What You’ll Bring
As you can see, this is a pivotal role within the programme, requiring a technically credible and collaborative individual who can lead analytical activities, influence design decisions, and communicate complex engineering challenges clearly and effectively.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
