Senior Engineer

About the Role

JGL is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Engineer to join our team in Southampton, supporting the successful delivery of a major underground civil engineering project. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a complex programme involving shaft construction, pipe jacking, reinforced concrete structures, and associated finishing works.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership on-site, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage engineering activities across all phases of the project.
  • Lead setting out and surveying operations.
  • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with design drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Produce and review RAMS, inspection test plans, and temporary works documentation.
  • Coordinate site engineers, subcontractors, and specialist suppliers.
  • Monitor quality assurance processes and maintain accurate engineering records.
  • Support planning and programme management to ensure milestones are achieved.
  • Liaise with clients, designers, and project stakeholders.
  • Assist with commercial matters including change management and compensation events.
  • Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Engineer on major civil engineering or tunnelling projects.
  • Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete structures and underground works.
  • Experience managing engineering teams and coordinating subcontractors.
  • Ability to interpret design drawings and technical specifications.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in:
    • Pipe jacking and microtunnelling operations.
    • Shaft sinking and deep excavation works.
    • Temporary works management.
    • NEC contract environments.
  • CSCS Card.
  • SMSTS or SSSTS qualification.
  • Temporary Works Coordinator certification.
  • First Aid at Work.
