AECOM is seeking to recruit a Senior Infrastructure Engineer with a highways and drainage focus to join our busy Development Infrastructure Team in St Albans.
The team delivers a wide range of multidisciplinary, predominantly residential-led infrastructure projects. Our work spans:
- Early scoping and feasibility,
- Technical support for planning,
- Detailed infrastructure design for implementation,
- Ongoing support during construction.
In addition, the team supports AECOM design teams across the UK and Ireland on a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects, including:
- Highways,
- Rail,
- Water infrastructure,
- Solar farms.
We also provide civil engineering design support to structural engineering colleagues on projects across:
- Commercial,
- Education,
- Leisure,
- Defence,
- Healthcare, and other government sectors.
Here’s what you’ll do:
This role offers an excellent opportunity for a suitably experienced Civil Engineer to further develop their career, taking on increased responsibility for both technical delivery and project management.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical and digital delivery of civil engineering projects.
- Prepare and review survey specifications, including utilities and topographical surveys.
- Check and coordinate the production of:
- Studies,
- Assessments,
- Conceptual designs for development schemes (drainage, highways, utilities, earthworks, and flood risk).
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and key stakeholders to secure approvals and ensure compliance.
- Contribute to bids and proposals, attend project meetings, and confidently communicate technical solutions.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- Civil Engineering degree (BEng or MEng).
- Relevant experience, preferably within a consultancy environment, delivering highways and drainage design for:
- Residential,
- Commercial,
- Wider infrastructure schemes.
- Proficient in industry-standard software:
- InfoDrainage,
- AutoCAD,
- AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Experience working with:
- Developer clients,
- Contractors,
- A proven track record in delivering infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with ArcGIS (welcomed but not essential),
- An interest in integrated AI solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BEng or MEng with progress toward Incorporated or Chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE),
- Membership of CIWEM (Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management) or CIHT (Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation).
