AECOM is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer with a highways and drainage focus to join our Development Infrastructure Team in St Albans.

About the Team

Our multidisciplinary team delivers residential-led infrastructure projects, including:

  • Early feasibility studies
  • Technical planning support
  • Detailed design for implementation
  • Ongoing construction support

We also collaborate with AECOM’s design teams across the UK and Ireland to deliver projects spanning:

  • Highways
  • Rail
  • Water infrastructure
  • Solar farms
  • Other sectors (commercial, education, leisure, defence, healthcare, government)

This role offers experienced Civil Engineers an opportunity to develop their career while taking on increased responsibility for technical delivery and project management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical and digital project delivery for civil engineering schemes.
  • Prepare and review survey specifications, including utilities and topographical surveys.
  • Check and coordinate studies, assessments, and conceptual designs for:
    • Drainage
    • Highways
    • Utilities
    • Earthworks
    • Flood risk mitigation
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and stakeholders to ensure approvals and compliance.
  • Contribute to bids, proposals, and project meetings, and communicate technical solutions confidently.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Civil Engineering (BEng/MEng) preferred.
  • Relevant consultancy experience, specialising in:
    • Highway and drainage design
    • Residential, commercial, and wider infrastructure projects
  • Proficiency in:
    • InfoDrainage
    • AutoCAD
    • AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Proven track record of working with developers and contractors.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS is a plus (not essential).
  • Interest in integrated AI solutions welcomed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Civil Engineering degree (BEng/MEng) able to progress towards Incorporated or Chartered status (ICE), or membership with CIWEM (Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management) or CIHT (Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation).
