Location Overview:

Join our bustling Bromley office, situated in one of London’s greenest boroughs. Here you’ll find plentiful and easy commuting routes, with central London just 15 minutes away by train.

The Team:

You will be joining a core Horizontal Engineering and Architecture team with members based across London, New York, and India, operating as a globally distributed engineering organisation. The team is structured into agile feature teams, each aligned to a distinct set of strategic products.

Role Description:

We are seeking an exceptional Senior Engineer to help shape the future of our strategic Post Trade Data Platform, a critical component of our long-term data strategy. This is an opportunity to join a horizontal engineering team at the centre of a major transformation programme, with upcoming initiatives requiring the platform to scale to 10x current ingestion volumes while significantly enhancing data accessibility, usability, resilience, and quality.

The platform underpins a growing range of business-critical capabilities, including operational intelligence, advanced analytics, and next-generation AI-driven use cases. As we continue to expand its global reach, we are looking for a technical leader who can combine deep engineering expertise with architectural vision to drive the platform forward.

Responsibilities:

  • Build innovative, scalable, and resilient solutions that advance the strategic data platform.
  • Define and drive the architecture and strategy to support the future needs of Operations and the business.
  • Provide technical leadership through architecture, design, code reviews, and pull request reviews, championing high standards of code quality and engineering excellence.
  • Mentor engineers and drive continuous improvement in platform capabilities, development practices, and operational effectiveness.

What we are looking for:

  • Deep solid expertise in Scala, Java, or another JVM language, including performance optimisation and tuning
  • Strong experience with database technologies including Oracle Exadata at scale, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, or similar data platforms.
  • Solid Cloud and DevOps knowledge, including Linux/Unix, OpenShift/Kubernetes, and Ansible.
  • Experience building and supporting reactive, event-sourced systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Spark and Apache Flink.
  • Strong understanding of Apache HTTP, Envoy, and REST API design.
  • Experience working with Protobuf, Avro, and Parquet data formats.
  • Knowledge of Iceberg, Databricks, and Hadoop ecosystems.

Skills that will help:

  • Follows TDD, ATDD, and Clean Coding practices and used to setting up or working in an environment using CI/CD using tools such as Jenkins with build tools like Gradle
  • Experience of Scrum/ Agile methods
  • Experienced in using design patterns and following best software engineering practices
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills, e.g. collaborative working skills
