VolkerStevin is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join our team on a prestigious long-term framework in Helensburgh. This is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in delivering complex civil engineering works while mentoring engineers and driving excellence in safety, quality and project delivery. Due to the nature of the project, applicants must be UK Nationals and eligible to obtain the required Security Clearance.
About the Role
As Senior Engineer, you'll be responsible for leading engineering activities across your section of works, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards. You'll support and develop engineers within your team while managing key engineering, planning and quality processes.
The role may also include managing low-complexity or short-duration projects such as site investigations, surveys and enabling works. Responsibilities apply across both self-delivered and subcontracted works.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Project Delivery
- Lead and coordinate engineering activities on site.
- Mentor and develop engineers within your team.
- Produce and manage RAMS, Temporary Works Briefs, ITPs, NCRs, Technical Queries, Early Warnings and progress updates.
- Support the management of the supply chain, ensuring effective coordination and performance.
- Manage material forecasting, procurement and reconciliation.
- Contribute to planning, progress reporting and information management compliance.
- Ensure high standards of workmanship and documentation.

Quality
- Undertake buildability reviews and support efficient project delivery.
- Produce, implement and monitor Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Manage Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Maintain accurate site records, drawings, diaries and photographic evidence.
- Ensure as-built documentation is produced and maintained.
- Raise, manage and close out NCRs.
- Support project quality objectives and quality management systems.
- Promote best practice, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Share lessons learned and support ongoing development across the engineering team.
Health & Safety
- Champion a positive safety culture and lead by example.
- Produce, review and monitor RAMS.
- Perform the role of Existing Services Coordinator where required.
- Undertake Temporary Works Supervisor or Coordinator duties.
- Be capable of acting as Appointed Person for Lifting.
- Ensure compliance with permits, procedures and HSEQS requirements.
- Support risk assessments, task briefings and health & safety planning.
- Actively participate in the VolkerStevin Safety Ripple programme.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in a Senior Engineer role within civil engineering, infrastructure or construction.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies and engineering best practice.
- Experience producing and managing RAMS, ITPs and quality documentation.
- Knowledge of temporary works, quality systems and site engineering controls.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive approach to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
About you
- Management of safe systems of works and quality management.
- Excellent IT knowledge including use of AUTOCAD and Microsoft suite.
- Degree/HNC, or equivalent, in civil engineering desirable.
- Good communication skills with client representatives, site team and operatives
- Ability to challenge designs and resolve problems to conclusion.
- Full Driving Licence.
