Mission
The Senior Engineer is part of a small team that builds Mermaid Flow, our second product and the place where agentic systems just work. This is a hands-on, backend-heavy individual contributor role on our EU-based Flow pod, one of the first engineers shaping the product and its architecture as it moves from beta to GA, alongside a Tech Lead, a Product Manager, and a Product Designer.

Outcomes
- Take Mermaid Flow from beta to GA, shipping the runtime and control plane in small, reviewed increments behind feature toggles, turning small goals into production software many times a day
- Make agentic execution reliable and safe, building the runtime, scheduling, permissions, logs, and quotas that run users' agentic workloads with the reliability and security a platform others depend on demands
- Keep AI-assisted development fast and high quality, and strengthen the team's encoded system, architecture docs, conventions, test patterns, and tuned Claude skills, that makes single-human review safe
- Do all of the above in a way that improves company and customer outcomes, with real ownership, sustainably fast iteration, and technical craft the rest of engineering learns from
Competencies
- Excellent technical craft and execution, with real backend depth across services, APIs, data, and reliability
- AI fluent, highly productive with agentic tools; experience building AI chat or agentic harness apps (agent orchestration, tool use, LLM runtimes) a strong plus
- Sustainably fast, clean code, TDD, and YAGNI applied with agentic AI, so speed comes from quality rather than despite it
- Autonomous owner, drives small goals to production without hand-holding and thrives on a small, early-stage team
- Communicates crisply and confidently, especially in writing, with superb cross-functional collaboration across a global, remote-first team
