Legal & General is recruiting for the role of Senior Engineer (MongoDB & AWS Serverless). Senior Software Engineer role focused on designing, building and evolving cloud-native platforms. The work centres on AWS serverless technologies and MongoDB, with responsibility for secure, scalable software and continual improvement.

What you’ll do

  • Own the design and delivery of high-quality software solutions across features, services and systems.
  • Build and operate cloud-native, serverless applications on AWS with attention to security, resilience, scalability and performance.
  • Apply clean code, sound architectural principles and engineering best practices aligned with SSDLC and technology strategy.
  • Identify and address technical debt to support maintainability, reliability and operability.
  • Define and influence test strategies with a focus on quality, security, accessibility, usability, resilience and non-functional requirements.
  • Perform and lead code reviews that improve code quality, system design and team capability.
  • Drive improvements in team processes, tooling and ways of working while supporting learning and accountability.
  • Mentor and coach engineers while encouraging collaboration, inclusion and knowledge sharing.

What they’re looking for

  • Strong expertise in modern software engineering, including clean code, clean architecture, design patterns, distributed systems, microservices and cloud-native application design.
  • Proven experience delivering serverless solutions on AWS.
  • Hands-on use of Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, CloudFormation and serverless frameworks.
  • Deep, practical experience with MongoDB, including schema design, performance optimisation and advanced aggregation pipelines.
  • Solid understanding of SQL and other NoSQL data stores.
  • Extensive experience building and maintaining large-scale systems using TDD, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines and containerisation.
  • A strong security-first mindset with experience in secure application development, web and API security, threat modelling and compliance in cloud environments.
  • Significant experience working in Agile environments such as Scrum and Kanban.
