Senior Network Engineer – Farnborough Role ID: SF20281

About the Role

Are you ready to be part of the future? At QinetiQ, we’re not just imagining tomorrow—we’re creating it. From cutting-edge defence technology to ground-breaking innovations, our mission is to empower and protect lives.

Join us as a Senior Network Engineer at our Farnborough site, where you’ll work with cutting-edge technology and collaborate with some of the world’s most brilliant minds.

This is a unique opportunity to lead the transition from manual network operations to automated infrastructure. As a key team member, you’ll champion automation initiatives across the network estate, embedding modern engineering practices and driving our digital transformation.

Your work will span designing and implementing network automation solutions, improving efficiency, consistency, and scalability across enterprise environments. You’ll collaborate with engineers, architects, and stakeholders to deliver automated solutions aligned with strategic business goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the transformation from manual to automated network operations, establishing best practices and a roadmap for automation
  • Design and implement automation solutions across LAN, WAN, and datacentre environments
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using Python, Ansible, and Terraform
  • Integrate and optimise centralised network management platforms (e.g., Cisco Catalyst Center)
  • Enhance operational efficiency through automated provisioning, configuration management, and monitoring
  • Collaborate across teams while mentoring engineers, promoting knowledge sharing, and cross-training

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
