Engineering Manager Opportunity

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking an Engineering Manager to work for our client within the finance sector. This is initially a 3-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead multiple engineering teams delivering critical banking and lending technology programmes. This is a technical leadership role requiring an individual who can provide strategic engineering direction whilst remaining hands-on enough to pair programme, review solutions, mentor engineers, and drive engineering excellence. The successful candidate will oversee approximately 20 engineers across 3-4 feature teams and play a key role in modernising platforms, improving engineering standards, and delivering complex technology initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multiple cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Provide technical leadership across Java, React/React Native, and cloud-based solutions.
  • Drive engineering best practice, quality standards, and governance.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop engineers and engineering leads.
  • Pair programme with engineers and provide hands-on technical guidance where required.
  • Own technology delivery across multiple workstreams.
  • Lead technical planning, dependency management, and risk mitigation activities.
  • Define and implement test strategies and engineering health initiatives.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders across business and technology functions.
  • Drive DevOps adoption, CI/CD maturity, and secure coding practices.
  • Support large-scale platform migration and transformation programmes.
  • Ensure delivery aligns with engineering standards and strategic objectives.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
