Senior Engineering Manager, Fortary Platform

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager, Fortary Platform based in the United Kingdom.

This is a senior engineering leadership opportunity focused on building institutional-grade digital asset infrastructure.

  • You’ll lead multiple engineering teams responsible for custody, transaction authorization, key management, wallets, and blockchain integrations.
  • The role combines distributed systems, applied cryptography, security, and regulated financial technology.
  • You’ll own the technical architecture and roadmap for a distributed MPC custody platform built for institutional scale.
  • You’ll work closely with Product, Security, Business Development, and executive stakeholders to align technology with customer and regulatory needs.
  • As a hands-on leader, you’ll shape engineering practices, manage critical incidents, and develop high-performing engineering leaders.
  • The role offers the opportunity to influence a highly secure platform operating at the intersection of Web3 and institutional finance.

Accountabilities

  • Lead multiple engineering teams delivering custody, transaction authorization, key management, wallet infrastructure, and blockchain integration capabilities.
  • Own the architecture, technical strategy, and roadmap for a distributed MPC custody platform, including disaster recovery, governance, transaction policies, and security controls.
  • Partner with Product, Security, Business Development, and executive leadership to prioritize engineering investments based on customer, regulatory, security, and business requirements.
  • Support multiple product deployment models, including managed-platform and licensed-software environments.
  • Establish engineering practices that meet demanding security, compliance, resilience, and governance requirements as the platform progresses toward regulated financial-institution status.
  • Lead engineering response to production incidents, outages, security events, and sensitive key-management scenarios, ensuring effective resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Hire, mentor, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers while establishing a strong leadership culture across the organization.
  • Drive the effective adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices to improve productivity, development quality, and delivery across engineering teams.
  • Ensure technical decisions balance scalability, resilience, security, compliance, and long-term maintainability.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years leading teams responsible for production-scale, secure distributed systems.
  • Proven experience owning large-scale, security-critical platforms from architectural design through production delivery and ongoing operation.
  • Deep expertise in modern cryptography and secure key-management technologies, particularly MPC, threshold signatures, Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs), and Hardware Security Modules (HSMs).
  • Strong experience designing and operating cloud-native systems, including Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, observability, and resilient infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of security and compliance frameworks relevant to regulated financial services, including SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST, and AML/KYC, with awareness of regulatory environments such as SEC, CFTC, OCC, and MiCA.
  • Experience with digital asset infrastructure spanning areas such as custody, trading, staking, treasury management, and blockchain settlement.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical organizations while maintaining a high engineering and security bar.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the credibility to work effectively with executives, institutional customers, auditors, regulators, and other senior stakeholders.
  • Experience scaling an engineering organization toward a chartered or licensed financial entity is a strong advantage.
  • Background delivering both managed-service and licensed-software products is desirable.
