Senior Engineering Manager (Golang, AWS)
Fully remote
£110,000 to £130,000 plus bi-annual bonus
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to take ownership of the engineering function at a fast-growing technology business, where the platform is written in Go and the team is being built out around it. This is the most senior technical position in the business, with a route through to Head of Engineering or CTO as it scales.
You will lead the engineers and tech leads, set the technical direction across the platform and own the architecture calls that shape it. As the technical voice of the business you will sit with the leadership team on strategy, and own how the function grows from here: recruitment, headcount planning and the engineering spend.

On a typical day, you will be making architecture calls across the platform, driving automation and testing standards, growing the leads and engineers beneath you, and sitting with Product and the leadership team on roadmap and technical trade-offs. You will not be in the code every day, but you will be close enough to it to open an editor when something needs you.
As our ideal candidate, you will have led engineering teams for several years, including other leads or managers, with a long career of backend engineering behind you and strong computer science fundamentals, most of it on distributed systems. Production Go, real work in AWS, REST APIs built to carry load, and API security you have implemented rather than read about.

Whilst this role leans towards leadership, staying close to the technology matters here, so hands-on Go is not optional. Time spent in a startup or scale-up, work in a regulated environment, or experience with a modern Javascript framework such as React or Vue, is highly advantageous.
