Senior Enterprise Architect – Data & AI

💰 £550/day (Inside IR35)
📍 London (2 days per week onsite)
📅 12-Month Contract

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Enterprise Architect – Data & AI to join a major enterprise Data, Analytics & AI transformation programme. This is a senior architecture role focused on shaping enterprise data architecture, cloud-native data platforms, real-time data patterns, and data governance. You’ll define future-state and North Star architectures, establish reusable enterprise design patterns, and work closely with engineering, platform, and delivery teams to turn strategic architecture into pragmatic technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define high-level, target-state, and North Star architectures for Data & AI capabilities.
  • Develop strategic technology views and roadmaps, including emerging approaches such as Architecture as Code.
  • Shape scalable cloud-native data architectures across Azure and/or GCP.
  • Define enterprise patterns for data sourcing, integration, ETL/ELT, data modelling, and real-time streaming.
  • Develop reusable enterprise architecture and data design patterns.
  • Shape transition-state architectures and guide programmes from current to target state.
  • Define tooling strategies and data delivery patterns across complex enterprise environments.
  • Provide architectural guidance covering strategy, principles, standards, and guardrails.
  • Identify cross-domain architectural dependencies, risks, and design considerations.
  • Partner with workstream leads, engineering, platform, and delivery teams to shape scope, requirements, and architecture roadmaps.
  • Contribute to data management, governance, and architecture assurance within a regulated environment.
  • Influence senior internal and external stakeholders on strategic technology decisions.

Essential Skills

  • Strong Enterprise Architecture / Data Architecture experience within large, complex organisations.
  • Deep knowledge of modern enterprise data platforms and architectures.
  • Experience designing scalable cloud-native data architectures on Azure and/or GCP.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud database technologies and distributed systems.
  • Hands-on architectural knowledge of real-time data and streaming architectures.
  • Strong understanding of ETL/ELT, data sourcing, and data integration patterns.
  • Strong knowledge of data modelling techniques, including architectural trade-offs.
  • Understanding of enterprise data management and governance best practices, ideally within a regulated organisation.
  • Ability to translate complex architectures into reusable enterprise design patterns.
  • Strong stakeholder management and ability to navigate a complex technology estate.

Desirable Skills

  • Exposure to AI/ML and enterprise AI, particularly its impact on data architecture and data platform requirements.
  • Experience with data automation and Data Contracts.
  • Knowledge of data governance/catalogue technologies such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Google Dataplex, or Ataccama.
  • Experience with Master Data Management (MDM) and Reference Data Management.
  • Strong practical experience delivering real-time data architecture patterns.
  • Experience working within banking, financial services, or another highly regulated enterprise.
