Bouygues Travaux Publics (TP) and Laing O’Rourke, two of Europe’s most dynamic engineering and construction specialists, are working together in a joint venture named BYLOR to deliver the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C (HPC) worth over £2.8 billion.

The Purpose Of This Role Will Be To
- Actively support the construction team in ensuring compliance with the environmental obligations on the project
- Assist in the identification, assessment and control measures of environmental risks
- Support and encourage innovation to achieve the project’s environmental objectives
- Liaise with the BYLOR central environment team to ensure knowledge of the requirements and sharing of learning within the teams.
Specific Duties
You Will Be Expected To
- Have good knowledge of Knowledge of all compliance obligations including UK regulations and the requirements of the contract and relevant works information. Regularly checking that the compliance obligations are met.
- Ensure clear understanding and compliance with all obligations imposed under the contract.
- Implement the requirements of the BYLOR Environmental Management System (EMS) and support the update of the EMS when required.
- Ensures implementation of the audit and inspection programme detailed in the EMS, including communicating and recording the findings from all audits and inspections and ensuring close out of all actions identified. Able to conduct audits against the standards set out in ISO 14001: 2015.
- Carry out and maintain Environmental Risk Assessments (ERA) specific to the scope of works;
- Report and record all environmental accidents and carry out an exploration when appropriate;
- Delivery of specific training when required e.g. emergency preparedness, environmental awareness.
- Prepare communications as required, to all staff and operatives on subjects relevant to the dedicated work area and risks.
- Review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and Task Risk Assessments and Method Statements (TRAMs) for work activities in your dedicated works package;
- Provide support and advice to all BYLOR team members and subcontractors;
- Effectively report and communicate to all senior team members with relevant and clear information;
- Attend the relevant meetings e.g. progress and HSE meetings to discuss environmental risks and opportunities;
- Ensure that a strong relationship is established and maintained with the Client construction and environment teams.
- Assist the Environmental Manager with the coaching and mentoring of other members of the Environmental Team.

Knowledge / Experience / Qualifications Required

- UK regulatory framework
- ISO 14001 requirements (auditor experience preferred)
- Sustainable development principles and practices
- Management of Environmental Management Systems
- Practical Experience in Environmental Management in Construction (>3 years)
- Diploma in Environmental Management (or equivalent)
