Environmental Economist

Salary: £40,000 per annum
Location: London
Working Arrangement: Hybrid, with flexible working options available
Contract: Permanent, full-time

Overview

Our client, a national public body responsible for protecting and promoting the historic environment, is seeking an Environmental Economist to strengthen its evidence base on the environmental and economic value of heritage.

The role combines environmental analysis with economic appraisal, applying social and economic techniques to challenges including climate change, biodiversity, and natural capital. Working with senior analysts, the successful candidate will contribute to research, evaluation, and the development of innovative valuation and accounting approaches.

This is an opportunity to use quantitative analysis to inform policy development, investment decisions, and the long-term management of the historic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Apply environmental and ecological economic principles to heritage-related policy and research.
  • Conduct social and economic analysis of challenges including climate change, biodiversity, and natural capital.
  • Support the development of evidence on the environmental and economic value of the historic environment.
  • Contribute to policy development and organizational decision-making through robust analysis.
  • Undertake quantitative research, statistical analysis, and economic appraisal.
  • Work with senior analysts on research and evaluation projects.
  • Support the development of innovative approaches to natural capital accounting and heritage valuation.
  • Interpret complex data and present findings clearly to varied audiences.
  • Manage analytical work effectively and deliver outputs within agreed deadlines.

Requirements

  • Understanding of environmental or ecological economic principles.
  • Proficiency in quantitative analytical approaches.
  • Experience using statistical software such as RStudio, Stata, or Python.
  • Degree in economics, environmental science, geography, or a related discipline.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage workload effectively and meet deadlines.
