Job Title: Senior Environmental Consultant
Work Location: Theale Head Office (hybrid working: minimum 2 office days a week with remaining time split between field work and home working)
Department: Consultancy Operations
Reports To: Regional Manager - South
Hours: 35 hours per week (09:00-17:00 hours)
Status: Permanent

Business Overview
Compass Environmental Consultancy is at an exciting point in its development as its Oilshield scheme has rapidly expanded to incorporate over 100 oil distributor clients and this client base continues to expand on a monthly basis. In addition, Compass has established contracts with a number of key clients for the provision of commercial services including claims management, environmental risk management and spill responder training.
With a stable core of profitable workload in place, the business is in a position to expand its headcount and capabilities with the appointment of a Senior Environmental Consultant to assist us with this continued growth and service delivery. The role will primarily be servicing projects in our Southern Region but will involve wider travel across the UK when required.

Duties & Responsibilities
Insurance Scheme Claims Management
- Facilitation of emergency response, consultancy and remediation management services to support the company’s insurance scheme products.
- Ensure spillage claims costs are managed throughout the claim lifecycle to protect the scheme insurers, the reputation of scheme clients and scheme profitability.
- Ensure a robust and technically sound approach is taken to investigate and remediate spillage claims.
- Accurate recording and billing of chargeable time and costs.
- High standards of reporting and communication with all stakeholders.
- Responsibility for own time management and timely, efficient and effective delivery of services.
- Delivery of risk management services to support the company’s insurance scheme products, including but not limited to site initial risk reviews and environmental site audits.
- Assist with the management of relationships with the company’s insurance scheme clients, to include regular communication and delivery of risk management initiatives.

Commercial Project Delivery
- Delivery of professional and profitable environmental services on a range of sites including but not limited to domestic premises, petrol filling stations, fuel oil distribution depots, proposed commercial and residential developments, etc.
Loss Adjuster & Insurer Claims Management
- Facilitation of emergency response and remediation management services to a select loss adjuster and insurer client base,
- It should be noted that loss adjuster claims management currently represents a small proportion of the workload required.

Business Development
- Identify opportunities to promote our commercial services.
- Be aware of the range of commercial services offered by Compass.
Physical Requirements
- The role will involve regular travel across the company’s operational footprint.
- An occasional overnight stay may be required however this will be minimised wherever possible.
- The role will involve driving a company vehicle.
- The role will be full time and contracted for 35 hours per week, however on occasion it may be necessary to work additional hours to facilitate project delivery.
- The role will involve working outdoors in all weather conditions including the potential for long hours working in hot, cold and wet weather conditions.
- The role will involve physical exertion including the potential for walking long distances and manual handling (e.g., collection of soil and groundwater samples).
- The role will involve working with display screen equipment for long periods of time.
Qualification & Experience Requirements
The successful candidate will:
- Be degree educated as a minimum
- Have at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role
- Hold a full UK driving license
