Senior Environmental Health Officer (Environmental Protection and Housing)

Location: Rushcliffe, Nottingham, NG2 7YG
Salary: £45,261-£48,150 per annum
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week
Closing Date: Sunday 23rd August 2026 midnight

Senior Environmental Health Officer - The Role:

As a Senior Environmental Health Officer, you will undertake a broad range of duties providing specialised advice and contributing to the delivery of key environmental and public health priorities across the borough.

You will work across a varied portfolio of environmental protection and housing functions, with particular opportunities to support the Council's work on contaminated land regulation and investigation. You will assess potentially contaminated sites, review technical reports and work with developers, consultants and regulatory partners to secure positive environmental outcomes.

Senior Environmental Health Officer - Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialised environmental health advice and support delivery of environmental and public health priorities
  • Undertake contaminated land assessment, regulation and investigation to ensure land is suitable for current and future use
  • Review technical reports and contribute to development control consultations
  • Work independently and collaboratively with internal teams, developers, consultants and regulatory partners
  • Interpret legislation and make balanced, evidence-based decisions on environmental protection matters

Senior Environmental Health Officer - You:

  • Hold a degree or postgraduate qualification in Environmental Health and be authorised by the Environmental Health Registration Board
  • Have experience in environmental protection, housing enforcement or related regulatory work
  • Possess excellent communication, investigation and problem-solving skills
  • Have the ability to interpret legislation and make balanced, evidence-based decisions
  • Hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle for business use
  • Ideally have experience of contaminated land assessment or environmental risk assessment, though applications from candidates looking to develop these skills are welcomed
