Environment Manager
Environmental Manager experienced in managing environmental activities and policies for a large rail civils construction project. The role will be responsible for leading environmental management activities across the multiple sections, ensuring compliance with the requirements, relevant legislation, and best-practice environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Assurance: Oversee the production and verification of assurance evidence for technical stage gates, ensuring asset design and construction adhere to technical requirements, environmental commitments, and regulations.
- Project Team Coordination: Assist the Senior Environment Manager in managing the environmental aspects of the project, coordinating with Integrated Project Teams (IPT) for risk-based technical assurance.
- Regulatory Compliance: Authorize mandatory approvals, verifying contractor designs and construction works meet Environmental Minimum Requirements (EMRs), focusing on General Principles and the Code of Construction Practice (CoCP).
- Communication Management: Manage the conveyance of Environment & Sustainability requirements to IPT contractors.
- Environmental Design Guidance: Provide direction on environmental design solutions, ensuring environmental considerations are integral to project design.
- Reporting: Support the Senior Environment Manager in internal and external environmental reporting.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with technical stakeholders and the local community on environmental matters at various levels.
- Mitigation Strategy Development: Collaborate with technical experts to create cost-effective environmental mitigation strategies and solutions.
- EDI Advocacy: Champion Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in all activities, adhering to organizational initiatives and policies.

Essential
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in environmental management on major infrastructure, construction, or linear project environments.
- Strong understanding of the regulatory and legislative framework relevant to HS2, including:
- Environmental Minimum Requirements (EMRs)
- Code of Construction Practice (CoCP)
- Environmental permitting requirements
- Relevant UK environmental legislation
- Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) or full membership of an appropriate professional institution (e.g., CIEEM, IEMA, CIWEM, Landscape Institute).
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience working on major UK infrastructure programmes.
- Knowledge of construction methodologies and environmental integration.
- Experience leading teams or mentoring junior environmental professionals.
- Understanding of environmental assurance processes and reporting frameworks.
