Job Description

The Senior Employee Relations Specialist is part of the European Employee Relations (ER) Centre of Expertise team, supporting the delivery of ER strategy and specialist services.

Working as part of a team to provide ER advice and guidance to HR Business Partners and the HR Service Centre for ER activity across Distribution in England with additional responsibility for the administration of claim proceedings, early conciliation and change management, as well as undertaking key ER administrative tasks.

This role will be based across Walsall PC and Rugby EComm sites but may require travel throughout the UK for the provision of ER support, as necessary.

Advisory

  • Provide ER advice to HR Business Partners, which is compliant with employment legislation and HR policy / procedure, ensuring alignment with business objectives, TJX values and culture and escalating more complex issues to Manager Of ER.
  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for ER case activity in Walsall and Rugby PC, ensuring the provision of high-quality advice and guidance to relevant service users and stakeholders.
  • Act as a point of escalation for HR Business Partners and the HR Service Centre (HRSC) Cases team to advise on ER issues, covering topics such as conduct, capability, grievance and absence, and settlement agreements.
  • Support the Manager of ER with delegated ER cases raised by HR Business Partners.
  • Lead on investigations for ER cases and partner effectively with HR Business Partners and business leaders to conclusion of the case.
  • Complete data entry reporting for all ER cases for Walsall PC and Rugby EComm within Service Now and provide monthly dashboards identifying trends and analysis to HR Business Partners.
  • Coach and advise the HR Service Centre (HRSC) Cases team with case queries, ensuring a robust and consistent approach.
  • Support HR Business Partners with routine change management as appropriate.
  • Review relevant case documentation, including letters, statements and reports.
  • Support the Manager Of ER with the facilitation of Early Conciliation processes between relevant business stakeholders and ACAS.
  • Escalate appropriately any issues that have potentially significant financial or reputational risk to the Manager Of ER / AVP Head Of ER and European Reputation teams.
  • Maintain and update own knowledge of HR best practice and employment legislation, as well as developments impacting our business areas and keep the business informed of this.
  • Provide on-site, face-to-face support when required.

Tribunal Cases / Litigation

  • Co-ordinate all tribunal claims and litigation processes with the internal Legal team and external legal providers, including:
    • Working in partnership with the local HR teams, conduct due diligence to gather all relevant information / documentation to enable a response to a claim within necessary timescales.
    • Assist with queries from the legal provider on points of policy / procedure relating to the claim.
    • Assist with coordinating internal disclosure processes and bundle collation.
    • Support Manager Of ER with approval of legal costs from relevant stakeholders.
    • Accompany the Manager Of ER to internal stakeholder and external legal provider meetings on matters of case strategy, merits report and litigation risk.
    • Attend tribunal hearings, where applicable.
    • Maintain a record of all claims for the UK Stores and Loss Prevention, including key dates and actions.

Policy & Project Support

  • Support the Manager Of ER and other HR/operational teams with relevant project activity, when required.
  • Support the ER Policy team with the on-going review of UK policies and procedures, when required, including:
    • Review and provide feedback on proposed changes to policies.
    • Review and/or update pursuant toolkits and letter templates.
    • Support the implementation and communication plans of new or updated policies.

ER Upskilling

  • In agreement with the Manager Of ER, provide periodic updates to the HR Service Centre on upcoming changes to legislation, case law and themes which require ER upskill.
  • Identify opportunities for the HR Service Centre on key themes / learnings to support improvement of ER capability, including new team members and discuss with Manager Of ER.
  • Support the Manager Of ER with the provision of employment law updates and knowledge sharing opportunities across the wider HR function.

Requirements

You’ll have previous experience of working in ER with good degree of knowledge and experience in the UK (e.g. case management, HR policy, legal compliance) and be confident in the provision of advice, and able to challenge where necessary while being flexible and open to alternative solutions.

You’ll have great influencing skills and demonstrable ability to build relationships and engage with a range of cross-functional stakeholders to achieve results.
