Senior Estates Engineer | Pharma | Hertfordshire | Permanent
Location: Hertfordshire (on-site)
Do you want to lead the engineering behind a pharmaceutical site where the work directly supports patients?
My client is a leading research-based pharmaceutical organisation with a patient-first philosophy. They're recruiting a Senior Estates Engineer to keep their site's building and utility services running reliably and compliantly.
The role
- Oversee maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical plant across manufacturing, research, and commercial areas
- Lead and coordinate the utilities engineering team and specialist subcontractors, prioritising planned, reactive, and corrective work through the CMMS
- Act as the primary contact for HVAC and business-critical infrastructure
- Act as Approved Person (Electrical HV/LV and/or Mechanical Pressure Systems)
- Review BMS/HVAC control systems for performance and energy-saving opportunities
- Run small works, projects, and planned shutdowns with site stakeholders
- Approve procedures and work permits, keeping GMP, H&S, and statutory documentation to standard
- Support fault-finding, audits, training, and continuous improvement
- Join the on-call rota (1 week in 6)

About you
- Proven experience supervising engineers or technicians, ideally in a pharma or GMP environment
- Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, backed by a relevant qualification (ONC/HNC/City & Guilds or above)
- CMMS experience and confidence with technical drawings and schematics
- Contractor management and risk assessment experience
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Flexibility to work occasional out-of-hours
