Senior Estates Engineer
Are you an experienced engineering professional with a background in pharmaceutical manufacturing, GMP environments, or highly regulated facilities? We are seeking a Senior Estates Engineer to play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliable, compliant, and efficient operation of building services and critical utilities across a complex manufacturing, research, and commercial facility.
The Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will support the leadership and day-to-day coordination of the utilities engineering function, overseeing maintenance activities across mechanical and electrical systems. You will be responsible for ensuring operational reliability, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement while leading engineers and specialist contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervising and coordinating planned, reactive, and corrective maintenance activities.
- Acting as a key technical point of contact for HVAC systems and critical infrastructure.
- Conducting equipment inspections, audits, fault finding, and root cause analysis.
- Reviewing BMS and HVAC control systems to optimise plant performance and energy efficiency.
- Managing small works projects, maintenance shutdowns, equipment upgrades, and installations.
- Ensuring compliance with GMP requirements, statutory regulations, and health & safety standards.
- Managing contractors and specialist service providers on site.
- Supporting training, development, and continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering team.
- Acting as an Approved Person for Electrical HV/LV and/or Mechanical Pressure Systems where applicable.
- Participating in an on-call rota (approximately 1 week in 6).

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience supervising engineers or technicians within a pharmaceutical, GMP, or other regulated environment.
- A recognised mechanical or electrical engineering qualification (HNC, ONC, City & Guilds or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of building services, utilities, mechanical and electrical maintenance practices.
- Experience working with CMMS/CAFM systems and contractor management.
- The ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive approach to safety, quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Desirable Experience
- Approved Person status (Electrical HV/LV and/or Mechanical Pressure Systems).
- Budget management and cost control experience.
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodology experience.
- Previous experience within pharmaceutical manufacturing or other highly regulated industries.
