Role Description

The Senior Estimator is a full-time role based in Chester with a hybrid working arrangement, allowing some work from home. This role is responsible for preparing detailed estimates and cost plans for projects, reviewing tender documentation, and analyzing drawings, specifications, and scope of work. Day-to-day tasks include obtaining and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations, performing quantity take-offs, and ensuring that estimates are accurate, competitive, and aligned with company standards. The Senior Estimator will collaborate closely with project managers, technical teams, and finance to support bid submissions, value engineering, and risk assessments. The role also involves maintaining estimating databases, contributing to continuous improvement in estimating processes, and providing clear cost advice to stakeholders.

  • Strong estimating and cost planning skills, including experience producing detailed estimates, quantity take-offs, and tender submissions.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office (especially Excel), and the ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Solid analytical and numerical skills, with attention to detail and the ability to compare and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with experience working alongside project managers, engineers, and clients in a professional environment.
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines, prioritize multiple bids or projects, and work independently in a hybrid setting.
  • Relevant experience in estimating within construction, engineering, facilities, or related sectors; prior senior or lead estimating responsibilities are highly beneficial.
  • Professional qualifications in quantity surveying, construction management, engineering, or a related discipline are desirable, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Knowledge of UK industry standards, procurement practices, and commercial awareness to support competitive and compliant bids.
