Mace Dragados Joint Venture (MDJV) is the construction partner for the new HS2 Euston Station, working with HS2 Ltd and design partners to deliver new platforms, concourse structures, and interchange links to London Underground and National Rail.

About the role

The Senior Estimating Manager develops and continuously updates the Incentive Target Estimate for the entire HS2 Euston Project ensuring that the estimate fully reflects the specific constraints and challenges of the project, the build sequence and methodology and its impact on cost.

What you’ll be doing

  • Producing detailed estimates in a timely and efficient manner, based on bills of quantities/take-off and activity-based costs.
  • Manage the sending out of enquiries
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with the client, contractors and suppliers
  • Agreeing resourcing levels against programme.
  • Assessing the risk levels associated with the project. Work with the project team to develop the risk register and ensure sufficient contingency is allowed within the budget at each stage of the projects lifecycle
  • Work with the planning and construction teams to finalise the construction methodology, temporary works requirements, preliminaries, staff costs and the like and ensure this is integrated into the overall estimate.
  • Production of the tender settlement book and presenting to the Directors for sign off / discuss with the client build-up of estimates.
  • Resolving post tender queries
  • Updating benchmarking data
  • Continuously review and cost check the developing design and update the budget as necessary.
  • Undertake validation of the SDSC Incentive target and comment accordingly
  • Work with the construction team to price feasibility studies and value engineering opportunities.
  • Attend weekly progress meeting with the site team and provided commercial assistance.
  • Review contract documents and methodology statements to identify potential gaps or savings within the incentive target.
  • Validate unit rates and construction methodology with key sub-contractors and ensure this is built into budget.
  • Provide input into the evaluation of changes to the project.
  • Price compensation events and project manager instructions.
  • Work with the Commercial manager to update and report the AFC for the project on a monthly basis.

  • Good working knowledge of estimating and construction methodology.
  • Ability to build excellent relationships with clients, design teams and stakeholders.
  • Highly numerate, accurate and focused on detail.
  • Ability to apply IT systems relevant to estimating (Knowledge of CostX, Bluebeam or similar estimating software packages.)
  • Major projects experience (£100m plus) projects.
  • Very strong knowledge of construction techniques and their implications on cost.
  • Degree in surveying or construction.
  • MCIOB / RICS qualified or working towards
  • CSCS card Professional or management.

Nice to have

  • Ability to use QRA and other sensitivity modelling software.
  • Presentation software and presentation experience.
  • Experience in managing a small team.
  • Experience in the railway environment.
  • Highway experience.
  • Utilities experience.
  • Major earthworks.
  • Tunnelling experience.
  • Retail experience.
