Senior Estimator – Residential & Infrastructure Groundworks
Salary: Up to £110,000 per annum + Comprehensive Package
Location: Bedford
About the Opportunity
Our client is a well-established and highly respected groundworks & infrastructure contractor with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality residential developments and infrastructure projects across the UK.
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Estimator to join their pre-construction team. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in securing major projects while working within a collaborative and forward-thinking business.
Role
As Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for leading the estimating function on a range of residential and infrastructure groundworks projects, producing competitive and commercially sound tenders from initial enquiry through to submission.
Working closely with the Commercial Team and Operations Department, you will ensure estimates are accurate, competitive and aligned with the company's strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of detailed estimates and tender submissions.
- Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
- Carry out accurate quantity take-offs and cost analysis.
- Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Develop pricing strategies for competitive tender submissions.
- Identify project risks and opportunities during the tender process.
- Attend tender review meetings and client interviews where required.
- Liaise with commercial, operational and engineering teams to ensure successful project handovers.
- Support value engineering initiatives and alternative construction methodologies.
- Mentor and support junior estimators within the team.

Typical Projects
You'll be involved in pricing a diverse portfolio of schemes including:
- Large residential housing developments
- Strategic land and infrastructure packages
- Roads and sewers
- Bulk earthworks
- Drainage and utilities
- Section 278 and Section 38 works
- Highway improvements
- Civil engineering and infrastructure schemes
Project values typically range from £1m to £30m.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Proven experience as a Senior Estimator within the groundworks, civil engineering or infrastructure sector.
- Strong understanding of residential groundworks and infrastructure projects.
- Experience pricing earthworks, drainage, foundations, highways and external works.
- Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- The ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
- Experience using estimating software and Microsoft Office.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to working with internal teams and clients.
