🏗️ Senior Estimator - Civil Engineering
📍 Location: Ashbourne, Derbyshire
📌 Full-time
We are looking for an experienced Senior Estimator to take a leading role within a civil engineering estimating and commercial team.
This opportunity would suit someone who enjoys being close to the detail, pricing work properly from first principles and having real influence over which projects are pursued and won. The role will focus on civil engineering tenders across infrastructure and environmental projects, typically involving areas such as power, water, flood resilience, highways and live operational sites.
🔎 The Role
You will be responsible for managing tenders from enquiry through to final submission, working closely with operational and commercial teams to ensure every price is accurate, competitive and buildable.

- Own civil engineering tenders from enquiry through to final submission
- Build labour, plant, material and subcontract costs from first principles
- Review drawings, specifications and contract documents
- Carry out take-offs, composite rates and tender analysis
- Obtain, compare and challenge supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Identify risks, opportunities, assumptions, exclusions and clarifications
- Work with operations on methodology, sequencing and programme
- Present tender positions to senior management
- Support post-tender negotiations
- Mentor and support the estimating team where required
👤 What we are looking for
- Solid civil engineering estimating experience
- Background with a main contractor or specialist civils contractor
- Confidence pricing from first principles
- Practical knowledge across areas such as groundworks, earthworks, drainage, utilities, highways, concrete, structures or external works
- Strong commercial awareness across risk, preliminaries, procurement and value engineering
- Experience with NEC and/or JCT contracts
- Confidence presenting estimates and challenging assumptions when needed
- Strong attention to detail and a commercially focused approach
