About The Role:
We're looking for a Senior Exploratory QE Engineer to strengthen how we find risk before our customers do. This is not a scripted test-case role. You'll use structured exploratory testing, charter-based sessions and deep product intuition to probe our card issuing and payment processing platform for the failure modes that automated suites and requirements documents miss: edge cases in transaction flows, race conditions, state corruption, security gaps and usability breakdowns. You'll work closely with automation engineers, developers and product owners, but your craft is distinct: you go where the tests don't, and you make the invisible risks visible.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Design and run structured exploratory testing charters against new features, APIs and high-risk areas of the platform, guided by risk, not scripts.
- Dig into complex payment and card lifecycle flows to uncover edge cases, state issues and integration gaps.
- Partner with automation QE engineers to decide what should be automated, what needs a human eye, and feed exploratory findings back into the regression suite.
- Perform risk-based test planning for releases, identifying the areas most likely to break and why.
- Investigate production incidents and near-misses to find the underlying gaps in test coverage, then close them.
- Champion a quality mindset across engineering, and raise the bar on what 'done' means.
- Contribute to and evolve our exploratory testing practice: charters, session-based test management, heuristics and reporting.
- Work within a regulated, security-conscious environment, keeping data protection, PCI DSS and audit requirements front of mind.
What You'll Bring:
- 5+ years in software quality engineering or testing, with a track record of leading exploratory testing on complex, business-critical systems.
- Strong grasp of exploratory testing methodology (session-based test management, charters, heuristics) rather than pure scripted/manual testing.
- Comfortable reading and reasoning about APIs, logs, databases and system architecture to trace a bug back to its root cause.
- Experience testing distributed, API-driven or financial/payment systems is a strong plus.
- Working knowledge of test automation practices well enough to collaborate effectively with automation engineers, even if hands-on coding isn't your main focus.
- A sharp, curious mind: you notice the detail others skip and ask 'what if' by default.
- Clear written and verbal communication, you can turn a messy exploratory session into a crisp, actionable bug report or risk assessment.
- Comfortable with a relaxed, autonomous working style balanced by real accountability for quality outcomes.
