The Position
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Façade Designer to join our team and lead the delivery of engineering design projects from initial concept through to practical completion. Working across a wide range of sectors, including commercial, healthcare, retail, industrial, education, hospitality, leisure, and other specialist environments, this role offers the opportunity to take ownership of complex and high-profile schemes. You will be responsible for leading project meetings, liaising effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams, and producing detailed designs and specifications that align with project timelines and construction programmes. A key aspect of the role will be ensuring the seamless coordination of design and detailing work, maintaining the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and technical excellence throughout each stage of the project lifecycle.
The Role and Responsibilities
As a Senior Facade Engineer your responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Leading medium scale projects.
- Acting independently to investigate solutions, explore options, work closely with partners and peers alike in order to develop and communicate design solutions.
- Interpreting the Client brief and assist in preparing designs at all stages from scheme through to detail.
- Attendance at Design Team meetings with Clients, other design collaborators and communicate design ideas through sketches, models and presentations.
- Producing concept sketches, detailed designs, calculations and reports in accordance with project programmes.
- Liaising with other disciplines and ensuring the coordination of design and detailing work appropriate to the project.
- Review and evaluate design deliverables to advise on compliance with specifications and industry guidance/standards.
- Coordinate with project teams to resolve project related issues and ensure deliverables are met.
- Maintain internal document control of drawings.
- Produce and Edit specifications to clarify the technical requirements of the design.
- Review facade contractor’s tender returns and design submissions.
- Witness testing of facade systems.
- Undertake factory visits and site inspections.
- Responding to Client requests for information.
- Where appropriate, facilitate and organise meetings and CPD training events to contribute to your own development and the development of others.

Required Skills
- Experience with leading projects during the different RIBA Design Stages and Construction.
- Experience with developing and presenting ideas to Architects, Clients and Contractors in meetings.
- Sketching – Ability to communicate ideas and develop concepts using hand sketches.
- Design/Detailing – competence in 2D and 3D CAD software.
- Building Physics – understanding of the principles governing thermal performance, condensation risk, etc and how they are applied in facade design.
- Structure – understanding how the principles of structural mechanics are applied in facade design. Software knowledge, preferably Strand, Autodesk Robot and SJ Mepla.
- Knowledge of materials, systems and installation techniques.
- Report writing – ability to compile well written text with suitable images.
- Ability to understand and react to design changes and budget constraints.

Qualifications And Experience
- Relevant degree (Facade Engineering, Architecture, Building Engineering, Structural Engineering, etc.) and preferably a relevant postgraduate degree.
- Significant relevant experience in a similar role.
- Working knowledge of BS/EN and International standards.
- A rounded knowledge of the engineering aspects of facade design and construction.
- Strong written, verbal and sketching communication skills.
- A collaborative approach.
- Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
