Facilities Technician

Nature of Job

A vacancy has arisen for a dayshift Facilities Technician within the Facilities Department at Diodes in Greenock to assist with the safe & efficient day to day operation of the site facilities infrastructure for the manufacturing plant. Reporting to the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Manager you will be responsible for carrying out repairs, maintenance, monitoring and manipulation of plant systems and equipment.

Over an 8-hour day your main function will be to ensure uninterrupted supply of Facilities services to the manufacturing plant. This role could be performed by candidates with various trade backgrounds such as pipefitters / plumbers, electricians and mechanical maintenance technicians coupled with a basic / working knowledge of typical building services plant & equipment. In all cases, full training will be provided to the right person to enhance their skills and become competent to work as part of the Facilities Technicians Operations and Maintenance team.

Skills required:

  • Have successfully completed a recognised technical apprenticeship
  • Experience of working as part of a team in an engineering environment (e.g. installation, maintenance, repair)
  • Demonstrate an understanding of safety systems and experience of Permit to Work systems (training on site specific safe systems will be provided)
  • Familiar with procedures and practices related to working within industrial plant rooms
  • Demonstrate good problem solving methodology to identify, correct and prevent system / equipment faults.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and actively participate in cross-functional team activities
  • Be physically fit and capable of working in an active role

  • Knowledge of Heating, ventilation systems; refrigeration; steam / hot water generation & distribution; pumped water systems.

Qualifications/Experience

The successful candidate will be time served and ideally have a C&G / ONC or an equivalent engineering based qualification. Must also have proven communication and interpersonal skills and should be comfortable using MS Office software packages (mainly Excel).

Candidate must be willing and able to undertake on-site training to gain understanding & competence on various site Facilities systems.

This is a unique opportunity for the right candidate to build on their core trade skills and develop or learn new competences in a multi-system Facilities environment.

In this role you will be required to work a 40-hour week, Mon to Fri i.e. 08:30 to 17:00.
