Job Overview

The role of the Systemic Family Psychotherapist and Neurodevelopmental Sub Team Lead is to provide a specialist family and systemic psychotherapy service to children and young people with mental health problems across all sectors of care as part of a multidisciplinary CAMHS service, including specialist family assessment and therapy for service users and their families/carers, and advice and consultation to non-systemic psychotherapist colleagues and the wider professional network. You will be joining a vibrant team of professionals and systemic psychotherapists who regularly attend discipline meetings and CPD events.

The post holder will be based in Westminster CAMHS as part of the Neurodevelopmental Team, providing generic CAMHS assessment and intervention alongside specialist systemic psychotherapy interventions. They will contribute to care plans and highly specialist assessments of children with complex presentations including ADHD, ASD, and OCD, and support formulation and treatment planning in line with best practice, evidence-based interventions and NICE guidance. Westminster CAMHS is open Monday – Friday (9am - 5pm), excluding bank holidays.

The Neurodevelopmental Team MDT takes place weekly on Thursdays, therefore attendance on this day is required.

Candidate will be expected to work Monday, Thursdays & Fridays.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures.

The post holder will provide clinical supervision to Band 7s within the service, B7 family therapists and family therapy trainees, including live supervision within the Family Therapy Clinic. They will also be the Sub-team Lead for the Neurodevelopmental Team, holding senior clinical and operational responsibilities and working with consultants, sub-team leads, borough leads and the team manager & service manager.

The Neurodevelopmental Team is jointly led by a Consultant Psychiatrist and Senior Clinical Psychologist. The post holder will join the leadership structure as Sub Team Co-Lead, sharing responsibility for service delivery, clinical leadership and operational performance.

The post holder will provide clinical supervision to Band 7's within Westminster CAMHS Service as well as B7 systemic psychotherapists and trainees, including live supervision within the Systemic psychotherapy Clinic.

Key Responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities for the Sub-team Lead

  • Be responsible and accountable for the team’s service performance.
  • Ensure provision of high-quality, evidence-based and cost-effective care for children and young people accessing the team and service.
  • Provide clinical leadership for the sub-specialty team.
  • Working in collaboration with the other Sub-Team Lead and Consultant Psychiatrist to deliver outcomes for the team.
  • Implement and embed the CAMHS clinical model of brief intervention through defined care pathways.
  • Contribute to systems for achieving agreed targets, including evaluating capacity and clinical activity to improve waiting times and throughput.
  • Provide assurance that staff access appropriate case management and therapy supervision in line with Service Line and Trust policies.
  • Support evaluation of clinical outcomes at subspecialist team level.
  • Create a culture of continuous quality improvement and contribute actively to service quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to the local Care Quality and Performance Group and clinical-effectiveness systems and processes.
  • Support review of skill mix and recruitment to deliver service objectives.
  • Participate in planning, distribution and allocation of clinical, administrative, professional and managerial tasks.
  • Contribute to evidence-based clinical practice and guidelines, local partnership work and stakeholder meetings when delegated.

Clinical

  • Deliver generic CAMHS assessments of children and young people referred to the Neurodevelopmental Team within required timescales.
  • Contribute to Neurodevelopment Assessments, Conduct ADHD assessments and Contribute to Autism assessments as required (training for this can be provided within the role).
  • Formulate and implement evidence-based care plans across the full range of care settings.
  • Implement a range of short- and long-term systemic psychotherapy interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups within the Neurodevelopmental Pathway.
  • Evaluate treatment options using relevant theoretical and therapeutic models and consideration of highly complex factors.
  • Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for assessment, treatment and discharge.
  • Provide specialist systemic consultation, formulation, expertise and guidance that contributes to assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and multidisciplinary decision-making.
  • Undertake risk assessment and risk management, and advise other professionals on these matters.
  • Act as care coordinator or lead professional, initiating and reviewing CAMHS care plans.
  • Communicate assessment, formulation and treatment information in a skilled and sensitive manner.
  • Participate in the community duty rota.
  • Support the duty rota as lead on-site a few times a month.

Person specification

Education And Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • MSc/MA in Family & Systemic Psychotherapy, UKCP registration and post qualifying experience
  • UKCP registration as family therapist

Desirable criteria

  • Post-qualification training in additional CAMHS related specialised areas
  • Post-qualification training in teaching and supervision of child family therapy
  • CYP IAPT training/Supervisor training OR accredited supervisor with the Association for Family Therapy (AFT).
  • Qualification in core mental health or social welfare profession (e.g. social work, mental health nursing, psychology, occupational therapy) and significant post qualification experience
  • Up-to-date safeguarding children training

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Substantial post qualifying experience of working within a multidisciplinary CAMHS team
  • Experience in supervising as Family and Systemic Psychotherapist
  • Experience developing and delivering bespoke CAMHS training to non CAMHS professionals

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of managing and supervising others in a clinical and performance management context including appraisal

Specialist Competencies

Essential criteria

  • Experience of undertaking and supervising specialist family therapy assessment
  • Experience, knowledge and skills in family therapy intervention, group therapy and supervision with children, adolescents and families
  • Experience undertaking neurodevelopmental assessment within the ND pathway

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of running parenting groups (Triple P, NVR, SPACE,Mellow, Webster Stratton, etc) and other types of group work group such as multi- family group
  • Experience of undertaking assessment of parenting capacity as part of court directed parenting assessments

Administration and Record Keeping

Essential criteria

  • Able to use Word and Excel to write reports and analyse and present basic data.
  • Competent with clinical recording systems such as SystmOne and RiO
  • Understands importance of safe, secure and relevant clinical record keeping
  • Able to use email in line with CNWL policy
  • Able to use Microsoft PowerPoint and other communication methods to support the delivery of high quality, engaging training and presentations
