Role Summary

The Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team at FINBOURNE works directly with our pre and post sales clients, who range from small start-up hedge funds to multi-national financial service providers, to understand their business problems and turn them into working solutions on LUSID and Luminesce. The role combines hands-on software engineering with deep financial domain expertise: FDEs design and build client-specific capability and integrations, configure the platform, and act as the client's trusted technical and domain partner across the full delivery lifecycle.

We are looking for a Senior FDE to own a client workstream end to end. You will handle the majority of product, domain, and delivery questions yourself, set the technical and quality bar for the work, run the client relationship at an operational and steering level, and be the person the client asks for by name. This is a senior, client-facing role for someone equally comfortable debugging across a full technology stack and holding a difficult conversation with senior client stakeholders. You will gain broad exposure across the business, work across a varied technology stack, and carry real ownership from the start.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the technical design and delivery of a client workstream end to end: scoping and sequencing the work, deciding what gets built, building the harder pieces yourself, and reviewing and improving the rest.
  • Translate a client's operating model into LUSID structures across the asset classes and operational workflows they run, without needing separate domain support.
  • Debug across the full stack, spanning LUSID, Luminesce, the SDKs, workflows, deployment, and system resources, and pinpoint whether an issue sits in the product, the configuration, or the client's data.
  • Build and configure client solutions: data pipelines and integrations, Luminesce queries, workflows, scheduler jobs, and config-driven deployments using fbnconfig.
  • Own the workstream plan, RAID, milestones, and status, and run steering committees and difficult conversations directly with the client.
  • Act as the client's voice inside FINBOURNE for product, prioritisation, and escalations, feeding client requirements into our Product and Engineering teams to support the specification and testing of new functionality.
  • Set and hold the engineering and quality bar across the engagement, including the work of others, and mentor FDEs and graduates through code review, design review, and day-to-day guidance.
  • Spot expansion and scope opportunities during delivery, contribute to scope and pricing conversations, and estimate effort credibly.
  • Deliver technical content, training, and client-facing documentation, and help build the wider community of LUSID users.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
