Senior Finance Analyst | Retail & Consumer | Nottingham | £45,000 - £50,000 plus excellent benefits
Zachary Daniels Finance is delighted to be partnering with one of the UK's best-known retail & consumer businesses to recruit a Senior Finance Analyst.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to accelerate their finance career within a close-knit team, while benefiting from the development opportunities and career potential of a much larger organisation. You'll gain broad exposure across finance rather than being confined to one specialist area, making this a strong platform for someone who wants to learn, develop and progress.
The career opportunity is genuine. This vacancy has arisen following the internal promotion, providing a great example of where strong performance can lead within the business.
The role
Reporting into the Finance Manager, you'll join the wider team working across a much broader remit than a traditional position of this type.
Responsibilities will include:
- Taking ownership of debtors and creditors reporting as part of month-end close
- Reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and investigating variances
- Maintaining oversight of cash balances and bank reconciliations
- Supporting cashflow forecasting and working capital analysis
- Supporting VAT accounting within a more complex VAT environment
- Working with tax and payroll teams to ensure accurate accounting and reporting
- Collaborating closely with P2P and O2C teams
- Providing support through the external audit process
- Gaining exposure to areas including cost of sales and wider business partnering
- Working with operational stakeholders to help them understand and manage debt within their areas
- Identifying opportunities to improve controls, automate processes and eliminate unnecessary activity

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About you
We're not looking for someone who has already done every element of the role. The fundamentals, attitude, and willingness to learn are more important.
You'll ideally have:
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification, either part-qualified, finalist or recently qualified
- Strong practical accounting fundamentals and a good understanding of debits and credits
- Experience of month-end accounting and balance sheet reconciliations
- Some exposure to VAT
- Strong Excel skills
- The ability to understand the numbers rather than simply follow a process
- Good communication skills and the confidence to work with different stakeholders
- A willingness to get involved across a broad finance remit and continue learning
We're open to candidates coming from industry or accountancy practice. Someone moving from practice into their first industry finance role could be particularly well suited, as could an industry-trained accountant looking for greater breadth, scale and career opportunity.
Previous retail experience, working capital exposure, SAP or Power BI would be useful, but isn't essential.
The opportunity
You'll join a close-knit finance team where you'll get visibility across different areas of the business, while also having access to the scale and career opportunities of a much larger organisation.
