Senior Finance & Accounting Assistant
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Blantyre, is currently looking to recruit a Senior Finance & Accounting Assistant for an initial 6 month contract on a rate of £19.02 /hour PAYE. This role will be hybrid working with 2 days (Tuesday and Thursday) onsite per week. Role can be on a full time or part time basis (3 days).
Manage the day-to-day finance function of ensuring the effective and efficient operation of this function. Ensuring customer debt is minimised, reconciliation of project accounts, timely supplier payments. People and relationship management is key to the role.
Responsibilities
- Plan and supervise the financial operational activities of the finance team.
- Gain full working knowledge of all the processes carried out by the finance team.
- Ensure consistent business processes and controls are applied across the team for recording financial transactions.
- Responsible for ensuring timely payment of suppliers.
- Responsible for ensuring timely payment of customers.
- Perform regular monitoring and reconciliations.
- Provide reports, analysis and comments on financial information according to an agreed schedule and as requested on an ad hoc basis.
- Process and reconcile financial transactions, ensuring completeness and accuracy of information, creating journals entries for inclusion on Agresso.
- Responsible for ensuring all project accounts are reconciled on a regular basis.
- Supervise the finance/business apprentice.
- Work collaboratively with the Associate Director.
- Demonstrate organisational values.
- Work collaboratively with customers and stakeholders.
- Share knowledge, expertise, understanding, perspective and contacts with colleagues to continually build abilities and intelligence.
- Deliver outstanding levels of customer service.
- Where appropriate work under one’s own initiative but also always as part of a team.
- Maintain appropriate records across all our systems.
- Participate fully in management and team meetings and events.
- Undertake any other duties as required by CEO & Deputy CEO.
- Be responsible for ensuring that the information and records processed (received, created, used, stored, destroyed) on behalf of the organisation are managed in compliance with ALL applicable legislation, codes and policies e.g., Data Protection, Information Security and Records Management.

Essential Skills

- Educated to HNC/ or a technical or higher qualification in accounting or extensive finance experience.
- Significant experience working within the finance function.
- High level of computer literacy, including MS Word, advances MS Excel skills.
- Experience of forging strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with confidence in communicating at all levels.
- Tactful and courteous manner and ability to deal with difficult situations.
- A systematic approach and attention to detail with the ability to analyse and report on financial information.
- Willingness to support, accept and drive through change to deliver and meet the business needs.
- Ability to work on own initiative and to prioritise workload with a flexible and willing approach to the varying workloads of the Finance Teams.
Desirable Skills
- Graduate or other some element of professional qualification (e.g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA).
- Experience working in public sector.
- Working knowledge of Agresso.
