Role Description
The Senior Finance Assistant / Assistant Management Accountant role is a part-time, on-site role based in Hertford 3/4 days per week, responsible for supporting the finance function on all divisions of the business maintaining accurate financial records. Day-to-day tasks include:

- Assisting with month-end and year-end closing activities
- Supporting the preparation of financial reports, VAT returns, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Monitoring event-related revenues and costs, prepayments, and accruals
- Ensuring compliance with internal controls and financial procedures
You will collaborate closely with wider finance and operations teams, contribute to process improvements, and provide reliable financial support to help optimise event and publication profitability and overall business performance.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Finance and Accounting, with 2-3 years practical experience in a similar finance role.
- Well-developed Analytical Skills to interpret financial data, identify variances, and support decision-making.
- Effective Communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and management, and to resolve finance-related queries clearly and professionally.
- Proficiency with accounting software (Sage preferred) and MS Office (predominantly Excel) for data manipulation, reporting, and analysis.
- High attention to detail, accuracy in data entry, reconciliations, and strong organisational skills to manage multiple deadlines.
- Understanding of financial controls, VAT. Payroll experience is advantageous.
- A relevant qualification in finance, accounting, or business (e.g., AAT, part-qualified ACCA/CIMA, or equivalent experience) preferred.
