Job Overview

Edward Mann are recruiting for an interim Senior Finance Manager, on behalf of a leading business in the Private Transport Engineering sector based near Canary Wharf.

This position will be recruited as a part-time (3 days a week) temp contractor (outside of IR35) – initially for 3 months to cover a busy period, with the potential to develop longer dependant on business needs.

Role Objectives

The primary objective of this role is to provide interim finance support by strengthening financial reporting, improving processes and assisting with the efficient operation of the finance function. Working closely with the Financial Controller and wider Finance team, the role will help enhance reporting, increase the use of Business Central, document key procedures and ensure effective knowledge transfer throughout the assignment.

Finance Operations Support

  • Work alongside the Financial Controller to support the day-to-day operation of the finance function.
  • Assist the Finance team with month-end activities, routine reporting and transactional finance responsibilities.
  • Prepare and review journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations where required.
  • Help maintain accurate, timely and well-documented financial records supported by appropriate working papers.
  • Respond to operational finance queries and assist in resolving process-related issues.
  • Provide additional support during peak reporting periods and other finance priorities.

Financial Reporting

  • Contribute to the preparation of monthly management accounts and associated reporting schedules.
  • Assist with financial analysis, variance reporting and management commentary.
  • Review financial data to ensure accuracy, integrity and consistency across reports.
  • Support the Financial Controller in highlighting financial trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Enhance the presentation and effectiveness of recurring management reports.
  • Produce financial information for internal stakeholders and management as required.

Business Central Reporting & System Enhancement

  • Maximise the use of Business Central to improve reporting capability and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate current reporting methods and identify opportunities for automation and simplification.
  • Develop consistent reporting templates, data extracts and standard reports.
  • Reduce manual processing, spreadsheet dependency and repetitive data handling wherever possible.
  • Ensure new reporting solutions are practical, documented and embedded within the Finance team.
  • Recommend additional ways to improve reporting through better use of system functionality and available data.

Process Improvement

  • Review existing finance procedures and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and standardisation.
  • Support enhancements to month-end processes, reporting schedules and finance workflows.
  • Introduce practical improvements that strengthen financial controls while reducing manual effort.
  • Identify duplicated activities, process gaps and areas where responsibilities require greater clarity.
  • Recommend changes that improve governance, consistency and operational effectiveness.
  • Assist the Financial Controller in implementing and embedding improved finance processes.

Finance Procedures Manual

  • Produce a comprehensive finance procedures manual covering core finance activities and recurring responsibilities.
  • Develop clear, step-by-step process documentation for key tasks including month-end close, reconciliations, reporting routines and system processes.
  • Record important deadlines, dependencies, source information, approval stages and review requirements.
  • Ensure documentation is structured for ease of use, supporting training, handovers and business continuity.
  • Validate documented procedures with the Finance team to ensure they accurately reflect current operations.
  • Deliver complete handover documentation and supporting guidance at the conclusion of the assignment.

Candidate Specification

Requirements

  • Qualified Accountant, or Qualified by Experience
  • Experienced in financial reporting, management accounting and analysis
  • Experienced in process improvements, automating reporting and/or documenting reporting procedures
  • Experience of working in interim hands-on project-based roles

Desirables

  • Experience with Business Central, Dynamics or similar ERP
  • Experience within transport, engineering, or relatable industries
