Senior Finance Manager
London | Full time | Office based
Mandarin an advantage. We trade extensively between the UK and China.
THREE THINGS MATTER MOST
-
You have already built AI into a finance function.
Not "interested in AI". Not "used ChatGPT for a board pack". You have taken a real finance process and rebuilt it with agents, automation or AI native tooling, and you can tell us what it replaced, what broke, and what it saved. We are building this entire group on AI and you will work directly with our engineering team to do it inside finance. This is the single biggest differentiator in this hire. -
You understand trade and distribution finance properly.
Physical goods across borders. Landed cost, import duty and VAT, stock and inventory valuation, freight accruals, FX on purchases and sales, credit terms into trade. You know why a container deal makes money or quietly does not. -
You are a fully qualified accountant who still does the work.
ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent, and genuinely hands on. You will run the bookkeeping, the reconciliations, the month end close, the VAT returns, payroll and the year end across six entities. There is a junior associate and there are external accountants, but the compliance is yours. If it has been ten years since you filed a VAT return yourself, this is not the role.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

THE ROLE
Compliance and control, hands on.
- Bookkeeping, reconciliations and month end close for all six entities.

- VAT returns, corporation tax and year end alongside our external accountants.
- Group payroll end to end.
- AP, AR and credit control.
- Cash flow and liquidity.
- Intercompany balances and transfers.
Deal and commercial finance.
- Pricing containers, structuring trade, managing FX, telling us whether a deal works before we sign it. You will be in the ledger and in a negotiation on the same day.

Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
Company structuring and growth.
- Setting new entities up properly, financial planning for new ventures, moving money safely across borders, getting the structure right as the group expands.
Building the AI layer.
- Our AI engineering team builds whatever you design. Automated reconciliations, live landed cost, agent driven reporting, cash forecasting that runs itself. You do not need to code. You need to have done this before and want to do it again at bigger scale.
REQUIREMENTS
- Proven experience building AI or automation into a finance function, with results you can evidence.
- Fully qualified: ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent, with post qualification experience running compliance yourself.
- Hands on finance in food and beverage, FMCG or physical distribution. Goods, not services.
- Practical working knowledge of import duty and customs, import VAT, landed cost build up, stock valuation, freight accruals, FX exposure.
- Useful: excise duty, duty deferment, bonded or duty suspended warehousing, letters of credit, trade finance facilities.
- Real depth from a well run finance function, now wanting to build your own.
TEAM
Own finance across the group. One junior finance associate reporting to you. AI engineering team building systems around you.
