A large, complex consumer business is looking to appoint a Senior Finance Manager into a high-profile role on an initial 12-month fixed-term contract basis.
This is a broad, business-critical leadership role sitting at the heart of finance, with accountability across technical accounting, store estate accounting, balance sheet governance, statutory reporting, and financial control. The Role:
- Leading and developing a team of qualified and part-qualified finance professionals
- Owning technical accounting advice and judgement across retail, property, and wider group activity
- Leading store estate accounting, including lease events, store closures, impairments, onerous contracts, and provisions
- Taking ownership of balance sheet integrity, statutory reporting, and financial controls
- Supporting robust governance, audit readiness, and high-quality financial outcomes
- Partnering with finance and non-finance stakeholders to provide clear accounting guidance
- Driving automation, process improvement, and scalable reporting solutions using tools such as Alteryx and Excel

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
