Temporary Senior Finance Officer – School
A valid Enhanced DBS is essential for this position.
Signature Recruitment is seeking an experienced Senior Finance Officer to provide temporary finance support to a school in West London.
This is a short-term temporary assignment, starting as soon as possible and paying £24.02 per hour plus holiday pay. You will work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from 8am to 4pm.
You will provide hands-on support across the school’s day-to-day finance function, ensuring financial processing and reporting remain accurate and up to date. The role will cover invoices, month-end, supplier payments, cash allocations, deferred income, and cash flow forecasting.
Temporary Senior Finance Officer responsibilities
- Manage incoming invoices and ensure they are processed accurately and efficiently.
- Support the month-end close, including reconciliations and preparation of financial information.
- Maintain accurate accounting records using Xero.
- Maintain and roll forward financial and reporting spreadsheets into the new financial year.
- Manage and reconcile deferred income, ensuring accurate recognition and reporting.
- Process and reconcile cash allocations, investigating any discrepancies.
- Prepare and process supplier payment runs, ensuring payments are accurate and appropriately authorised.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of short- and medium-term cash flow forecasts.
- Provide wider finance support during periods of increased workload or team absence.

About you
- Strong hands-on finance experience covering month-end, invoices, payment runs, reconciliations, cash allocations, and cash flow forecasting.
- Confident using Xero, Excel, and financial reporting spreadsheets.
- A valid Enhanced DBS and confidence working in a busy school environment around young children.
- Highly organised, accurate, and able to work effectively to tight deadlines.
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities and changing demands.
- Friendly and professional, with strong communication skills.
- Available to start promptly and commit to the full three-week assignment.
- Previous experience within a school or education setting would be advantageous, although candidates from other relevant finance backgrounds will also be considered.
