Royal Mail is transforming, and we're looking for a talented Senior Technical Financial Accountant to join our Group Finance team at the heart of one of the UK's most iconic organisations.
This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong accountant who enjoys solving complex accounting challenges, influencing senior stakeholders, and shaping high-quality external reporting. While pension accounting is a key part of the role, you'll also work across a broad range of technical accounting, reporting and finance transformation projects, contributing to some of the Group's most significant accounting matters.
If you're looking to combine deep technical expertise with meaningful business exposure and visible impact, we'd love to hear from you.
The Role
Reporting to the Financial Accounting & External Reporting Lead, you'll be the Group's expert on pension accounting and reporting, ensuring accurate accounting, robust governance, and high-quality disclosures.
You'll also partner with Finance, Tax, Treasury and wider business teams to provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions, new accounting standards and key reporting initiatives.
This role offers a unique blend of technical depth, stakeholder engagement and strategic influence within a large, complex organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Pension Accounting & Reporting
- Lead accounting and reporting for the Group's pension arrangements.
- Own pension month-end processes, journals and reconciliations.
- Prepare pension disclosures for the Annual Report and statutory accounts.
- Manage year-end pension audits and relationships with auditors, actuaries and trustees.
- Support reporting and analysis for senior leadership, the Audit & Risk Committee and Board.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
