About the company
Steamship Mutual is a P&I insurance company, with 250 employees worldwide. The main office is based near Liverpool Street station, London. We have offices in Bermuda, Brazil, Cyprus, Greece, Hong Kong, New York and Japan, and Singapore.
Overall job purpose
To support the preparation and review of financial, regulatory and tax reporting for all entities within the Steamship group.
Requirements
Key responsibilities
- Preparation and review of financial statements for insurance and management companies in accordance with UK GAAP and IFRS, on a quarterly and annual basis
- Preparation of combined and consolidated financial statements
- Preparation of quarterly and annual regulatory returns for the insurance companies and branches, in UK, Bermuda, Singapore and Hong Kong
- Lead contact for the external audit, requiring liaison with local and component auditors
- Reviewing ad hoc regulatory/statistical returns for the FCA, ONS, NAIC and others
- Liaising with tax consultants and submission UK, Singapore and Hong Kong corporation tax returns
- Review and submission of UK VAT returns and GST returns in Singapore
- Monthly review of trial balances and work checks/balance sheet reconciliations
- Reviewing the monthly intercompany matrix
- Systems administrator for Unit 4 Financials by CODA and participant in system upgrades and/or testing where necessary
- Member of the Finance and Compliance committees
- Undertake ad hoc duties within the capabilities of the postholder that are relevant to the role and reasonably requested by line management

Person Specification
- Qualified Chartered Accountant with proven experience in financial and regulatory reporting. Experience gained within the insurance sector, particularly P&I, marine insurance, or wider financial services, would be highly advantageous
- Good knowledge of an insurance company's balance sheet and preparing financial statements on a standalone and consolidated basis
- Experience preparing Solvency II or other regulatory returns prepared on an economic basis
- Experience working in insurance, either directly or in an audit capacity
- Strong analytical skills and previous exposure to other areas of an insurance company's business (actuarial/reserving, treasury, underwriting, claims, reinsurance etc)
- Good technical accounting knowledge, experience working with multiple reporting currencies, and reconciliation of intercompany transactions
- Experience using accounting systems; knowledge of CODA is desirable but not essential
