Who we are:

We're one of Europe's fastest-growing fintech companies – on a mission to create the world's most empowering way to pay.

We launched the product in 2020 and achieved double unicorn status, valued at $2 billion, and since then have taken on more than 6 million customers.

Our mission is to become the best way to pay for anything, anywhere and say goodbye to credit costs for everyone. This is huge. Want to join us?

About the role:

The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for key areas of Zilch’s month-end close, financial reporting and operational expenditure accounting. The role operates with a high degree of independence, ensuring financial information is accurate, complete and delivered in line with reporting deadlines and control requirements.

The role requires the individual to resolve complex accounting and operational issues, determine appropriate approaches to new or ambiguous assignments, and identify improvements to Finance processes, systems and controls. The Senior Financial Accountant works closely with colleagues across Finance and the wider business, contributes to cross-functional initiatives and supports the development of junior team members.

Day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Own relevant areas of the monthly management accounts across the P&L and balance sheet, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Take end-to-end responsibility for operational expenditure accounting and the accruals process, ensuring costs are complete, accurate and appropriately recognised.
  • Partner with FP&A on operational expenditure, explaining performance against budget, investigating variances and providing meaningful commentary and insight.
  • Own specified non-Opex accounting areas, including IFRS 16 lease accounting, advertising revenue and customer acquisition costs.
  • Work with Sales, Growth and other stakeholders to obtain the information required for accurate accounting and determine the appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Own the Finance relationship for Zilch’s Polish subsidiary, working with the local Finance team and external accountants to review the monthly trial balance and supporting reconciliations.
  • Resolve subsidiary accounting queries and oversee management and statutory reporting activities to support accurate and timely consolidation into Group reporting.
  • Prepare and review month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments and fixed assets, in accordance with reporting deadlines and financial controls.
  • Complete and review detailed balance sheet reconciliations, proactively investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Provide clear financial commentary, variance analysis and insight to Finance and non-Finance stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation of year-end accounts and completion of the external audit, independently resolving matters within the role’s areas of ownership and escalating more complex issues appropriately.
  • Provide guidance to the AP and AR function, supported by analysis of ageing, expenditure and other relevant trends.
  • Identify risks, control gaps and opportunities to improve Finance processes, systems and ways of working.
  • Define and implement practical improvements that increase the accuracy, efficiency and scalability of Finance operations.
  • Contribute to the continued development and optimisation of NetSuite, working with internal stakeholders and Oracle consultants to define requirements, assess options and support implementation.
  • Determine the appropriate approach for new or ambiguous assignments, presenting options and recommending practical solutions where established procedures do not fully address the issue.
  • Support medium to large Finance projects and cross-functional initiatives, taking ownership of defined workstreams of low to medium complexity.
  • Manage competing priorities and deliver accurate work against key reporting and project deadlines with minimal oversight.
  • Build effective relationships across Finance and the wider business, adapting communication and working styles to different stakeholders.
  • Simplify complex financial or technical information and communicate it clearly to Finance and non-Finance audiences.
  • Lead knowledge-sharing within relevant stakeholder groups and provide guidance and coaching to junior colleagues.
  • Ensure the role’s priorities and outputs remain aligned with Finance priorities, Zilch’s wider objectives and company performance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
