Senior Financial Accountant (Hybrid)
Location: Derby, United Kingdom Type: Full-time, Temporary
About the Role
The Senior Financial Accountant role provides leadership and support to the Financial Accounting team. The role ensures timely reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, as well as ownership of VAT, Audit, and taxation matters. Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing delivery of month-end accounts, forecasts, and budgets for designated parts of the business.
- Developing and mentoring junior members of the team.
- Managing the daily finance operations for the team, ensuring accurate and timely financial information for the wider business.
Responsibilities

Financial Operations Leadership Manage daily finance operations for the Financial Accounting team, supporting the Finance Director and Financial Controller.

VAT, Taxation & HMRC Reporting Oversee the reconciliation, submission, and payments of quarterly VAT returns, corporation tax calculations, and other HMRC reporting (e.g., PSA). Provide ad-hoc VAT and HMRC reporting advice.

Balance Sheet Reconciliation Ensure key control accounts on the balance sheet are fully reconciled regularly.

Audit Support Take a key role in the annual year-end audit, liaising with auditors and coordinating internal workload.

- Financial Forecasting & Budgeting Oversee the production of financial forecasts and budgets for agreed areas, aligning with established timelines.
Requirements

Qualifications: ACCA, CIMA, or ACA qualified, or equivalent through relevant experience.

Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Excel and financial systems, with SAP experience being advantageous. Experience in a project-based, professional services, or consultancy environment is desirable.

Soft Skills: Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities. Highly organized, with sharp attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Professional, discreet, and committed to confidentiality. Proactive in staying updated with industry developments and relevant legislation. Flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to support shifting business needs.

Experience: Previous experience in a similar finance role is beneficial.
