A fantastic opportunity to join the Municipal Collections Finance team as an SFA, supporting the business through delivering accurate financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and analysis enabling informed business decision-making. The role will develop strong technical and commercial finance skills through business partnering with operational stakeholders, maintaining robust financial controls, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance financial and operational performance. This role will be a key support in the regional leadership team attending team meetings.

Your core responsibilities

  • Support the RGMs to deliver budget and forecast for the year through period end and mid-month
  • Be part of RGMs leadership team and join all team meetings and have regular 121s with RGMs.
  • Posting of all journals above gross margin (proactively correcting source data to reduce journal adjustment requirements)
  • Lead conversations with central team to ensure accuracy of their journal submission and understand variances for own regions
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts, including variance analyses and bridges
  • Monthly meetings with the business on reasons for variances. Proactively use KPI data to inform variances, challenge the business and agree actions and next steps. Ensure methods to follow up actions and track in subsequent meetings.
  • Prepare and lead budget process for area and present to RGM and senior finance
  • Completion of balance sheet recs ensuring postings are correct and compliant with accounting standards
  • Take ownership of all external and internal audit queries for region
  • Use site visits to proactively identify efficiency opportunities
  • Lead efficiency programmes for each region
  • Oversee and understand monthly CAPEX and cashflow reporting and use data to drive efficiency into the business

  • Qualified CIMA, ACCA or ACA.
  • Experience of working with and supporting operational, commercial staff across multiple locations.
  • Management accounting experience gained in the service, logistics or waste industries an advantage
  • Computer literate, advanced excel skills essential
  • To be flexible and have the ability to multi-task.
  • Articulate, confident and assertive
  • Analytical and able to quickly assess issues and recommend and/or implement solutions
  • Robust and resilient, able to absorb pressure and respond positively
  • Solid pragmatic approach to delivering to tight deadlines and targets
  • Organised with the ability to plan and prioritise
